Artist Statement
I love both creating and observing art and deeply appreciate this interplay. As an artist, I am particularly inspired by travel, prehistory, nature, and spirituality. I have the good fortune to travel a great deal and always make a sure to observe the world around me, take photographs, fill my travel journal with paintings and sketches, and to seek out prehistoric sites and magnificent landscapes. Mayan temples in Mexico, megalithic sites in Ireland, and the stark beauty of Iceland have all found their way into my paintings. Trees, plants, and rocks of are also favorite subjects. Through meditation, images and ideas emerge and work into my creative process.
I am particularly drawn to painting and primarily work with acrylic paint; however, I also enjoy working with and incorporating graphite, charcoal, pastels, ink, watercolor, and collage. Currently, I am exploring varying degrees of abstraction as I integrate observed and imagined elements within my work.
